Should I repair or replace my heat exchanger?
Repair is usually right when tube leaks are isolated, cleaning can restore performance, and the shell is structurally sound. Replacement makes sense when tube failure is widespread, corrosion threatens safety, the unit no longer meets code, or repair costs approach 60–70% of a new unit. Harris Thermal’s Test and Evaluate service with NDE diagnostics gives you a data-based answer before you commit either way.
What is heat exchanger re-tubing?
Re-tubing replaces the tube bundle of an existing shell and tube exchanger while reusing the shell — restoring thermal performance at a fraction of replacement cost. Harris Thermal has all the tooling required: tube pullers, tube cutters, and tubesheet bevelers.
What is a vessel re-rate?
A re-rate re-qualifies an existing pressure vessel for different operating conditions — new pressure, temperature, or service — through engineering analysis and documentation under our ASME R stamp. It’s often the economical way to repurpose an older vessel for a new duty.

Can you repair equipment you didn’t originally build?
Yes. Our R-stamp authorization covers repair and alteration of any manufacturer’s ASME pressure vessels, and our NDE capabilities (radiography, liquid penetrant, ultrasonic, helium leak testing) let us diagnose and repair equipment regardless of who built it.
